WEA develops broad-based arts awareness and fundraising initiatives with the intention of increasing financial resources for Windsor arts. Primary use of funds is to build the Endowment Fund and further WEA's Arts Leadership Awards Program.

Walk for a Creative City!

On Monday, May 24th, 2010 in Ambassador Park we walked for a Creative City!

Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) in partnership with WindsorEats.com and hundreds of others walked to show our support for a creative and vibrant city.

Thank you to everyone who came out and walked with us! It is the commitment, support and dedication of the residents of this city that make it such a beautiful place to live.

A New Look for WEA

Earlier this year, Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) put forth a Request For Proposals (RPF) to create a new corporate identity, related website, and marketing and branding of programs and project materials for the arts organization.

Windsor Endowment for the Arts has received a two-year grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation to fund strategic development and launch the Arts Leadership Awards and WEA Grants program, including its 2010 wider scope marketing and an update of its website.

"We are very pleased to be moving forward in developing processes and materials which will assist us in growing the endowment and building a foundation for the continued growth of the arts community in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent," explained Carolyne Rourke, President of WEA. "The $75,000 grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation will help us strengthen our organization and build a sustainable structure."

Part of the revitalization of Windsor Endowment for the Arts will be the launch of its new Arts Leadership Awards and WEA Grants program for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Planned for Fall 2010, the program will honour individuals and organizations in four areas: literary arts, performing arts, visual arts and community arts. The Awards Celebration will feature one Leadership Award Recipient and two Grantees in each of the four disciplines. The general public will be invited to bring forth nominations for the Arts Leadership Awards and Grants jury process via its appropriately reconstructed website.

Details on the award process including applications and deadlines will be available in the spring 2010.

Shorter is definitely sweeter at annual business meetings!

Shorter is definitely sweeter at annual business meetings, the Windsor Endowment for the Arts demonstrated Nov. 12.

The arts-financing organization gathered its supporters at the Tsunami Glassworks studio for a rapid review of proceedings in the last 12 months. WEA's new scheme for arts awards and grants was also mentioned.

But attention quickly shifted to Kris and Eva, hard at work blowing distinctive art glass in their shop at 1167 Mercer Ave.

Then the 75 guests wandered along a corridor at the back of the former industrial building to inspect visual artworks assembled by WEA Director Jennifer Escott.

They were steered into the video studios of Suede Productions where Susan Haig, former conductor of the Windsor Symphony, discussed innovative ways of approaching news media in the current business climate. She stirred up plenty of questions.

"An exciting general meeting," said Haig, now based in Florida and New Jersey. "What creativity!"
